Gary gained his Bronze Medallion in November 1976. As an active patrolling member until 2020, he contributed over 800 service hours to the club.

Throughout his membership, Gary held key positions including Craft Captain, IRB Captain, Boat Captain, and Maintenance Officer. Beyond these roles, he was instrumental in supporting club infrastructure through bar service, catering, construction projects, and working bees.

He held certificates and qualifications in Resuscitation, Advanced Resuscitation Certificate (ARC), Defibrillator operation, CPR, IRB Driver, IRB Crew, First Aid, Sweep, and Boat Coaching.

His competitive achievements established him as one of the club's most decorated athletes in ski, board, and boat events, representing Penguin SLSC with distinction at both state and national championships.
